Sydney Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic is no newcomer. In fact, we are one of Sydney’s leading cosmetic clinics established by Dr George Mayson over 25 years ago.
These days, we have a team of Cosmetic & Plastic Surgeons offering the full spectrum of cosmetic procedures to meet the needs of every patient.
I have personally been in this industry for over 24 years and have seen that the explosion in the popularity of cosmetic procedures has attracted widespread ‘price cutting’. While some would regard ‘price cutting’ as beneficial for patients, the hidden downside has been the compromise of both standards and quality of results that lower prices can deliver: the old adage ‘You Get What You Pay For’ has never been truer!
Our Clinic has always enjoyed a distinguished reputation in terms of patient satisfaction, high standards, ethics and safety. Therefore, I am very proud that it holds the same reputation to this very day and that we are regarded as one of Sydney’s leading Cosmetic Clinics with only Cosmetic and Plastic Surgeons performing ALL procedures, not Cosmetic Physicians.
My personal undertaking to all patients is that we will continue to deliver premium cosmetic procedures under the highest of professional standards at a Value-For-Money Price but always with the patient’s best interests in mind.
Sincerely,
CEO
What We’re Known For:
Caution: Unfortunately for patients, current medical regulations do not prevent any doctor from performing Laser Skin Resurfacing without any certified training in the use of lasers!
Our Clinic’s experience with Laser Skin Resurfacing dates back as far as 1993 and in 1998 our Medical Director, Dr George Mayson, passed the examinations of the American Board of Laser Surgery with one of the highest scores ever recorded!
Caution: Incorrectly performed Laser Skin Resurfacing can lead to permanent scarring on the face. To date, our Clinic has not seen a single case of scarring from Laser Resurfacing in over 25 years!
Caution: How can any doctor possibly assess your suitability for Laser Skin Resurfacing with an online or Skype Consultation? The state of your skin is critical in determining whether or not you are suitable for Laser Skin Resurfacing and whether other forms of Skin Resurfacing such as Chemical Peeling or Surgical Dermabrasion would better address your concerns, or be used in addition to the Laser.
Instead, we offer a detailed consultation with the Surgeon who’ll be doing your procedure so he/she can carefully assess your suitability and then carefully plan it.
Caution: Avoid the temptation of ‘Free’ Consultations which are primarily designed to ‘sell you’ a procedure – even if you are not totally suitable! Always question the quality and integrity of any consultation that is ‘free’!
Caution: As mentioned above, skin resurfacing can be achieved by three very different methods:
Each technique has its advantages and limitations and so it’s our years of experience that will determine which technique, or combination of techniques, will best deliver the results you’re trying to achieve.
Therefore, bear in mind that unless a clinic is experienced at delivering ALL THREE techniques, you could be offered only the technique(s) they know in which case your final result may not as good as it could have been.
At Sydney Cosmetic & Plastic Surgery Clinic we always customise your procedure according to the technique, or combination of techniques, that will deliver the best possible result.
Caution: We regularly receive reports from callers that they’ve had “Fraxel” Laser Skin Resurfacing elsewhere but the results weren’t impressive, or the ‘downtime’ was only 3-4 days, or they were recommended multiple treatment sessions!
Possible explanations for such patient disappointments could be:
Carbon Dioxide (CO2) Laser Skin Resurfacing revolutionised the art of skin rejuvenation when first introduced into Australia in 1993, and it is still one of the most effective methods of removing facial wrinkles and acne scars.
However, the early CO2 lasers were more ‘aggressive’ than current ‘fractional’ CO2 lasers because they were totally ablative – that is, they removed ALL the skin in the targeted area. And by doing so, they were more effective in removing wrinkles and acne scars, but they did carry a significant risk of permanent hypopigmentation (loss of skin colour).
In contrast, our computerised Fraxel ‘Repair’ CO2 laser is a far cry from those early CO2 lasers. Being ‘Fractional’ means it ‘drills’ thousands of microscopic laser columns into the skin but leaves intact the skin between those columns to initiate the healing process. This both reduces recovery time and dramatically reduces the risks of hypopigmentation and scarring.
Apart from removing wrinkles, sunspots and blemishes on the surface, the skin’s natural healing process also replaces the lasered columns in the deeper dermis with new and stronger collagen fibres to deliver more support to the skin.
The net result of all this is fresher, smoother and tighter skin with fewer wrinkles.
Apart from its use in skin rejuvenation, our Fraxel CO2 ‘Repair’ Laser is also capable of removing skin lesions and performing incisional procedures such as Laser Eyelid Surgery.
1. Facial Wrinkles
As a general rule, fine and medium wrinkles can be totally removed but deep wrinkles that reach deeper than the level of the resurfacing can only be made shallower. Nevertheless, the overall reduction in number and depth of wrinkles is quite dramatic.
Please note that deep facial grooves and furrows e.g. nasolabial grooves (‘smile lines’) or deep ‘frown lines’ cannot be removed by any resurfacing procedure and are more suited to other treatments such as Dermal Fillers and Anti-Wrinkle Injections.
2. Facial Sun-Damage Manifested By:
3. Acne Scarring
Some acne scar shapes respond better to Laser Resurfacing than others. Our Doctor will assess your suitability at your Initial Consultation. Please note that if you have been taking Roaccutane for acne, it is essential that you have been off it for 12 months before having Laser Skin Resurfacing.
4. Chronically Sun-Damaged Lips (Actinic Cheilitis)
This condition resembles ‘chapped’ lips and carries a risk of cancerous change if left untreated. Accordingly, it is important to treat this condition early before any cancerous changes develop.
5. Miscellaneous Skin Lesions Including:
Laser Skin Resurfacing is performed in the privacy of our own Clinic’s Theatre. To make your procedure as comfortable as possible, our practice is as follows:
You may go home 1-2 hours after your procedure but you cannot go home alone or drive for 24 hours if you’ve had Sedation.
Healing is usually complete within 9 days. Once fully healed, you can resume wearing make-up and return to work and social activities.
For the first 2-3 days, your lasered areas will have oozing and pin-point bleeding. Rest assured, both these appearances are expected and completely normal. In fact, if you don’t have those appearances it means you have been under-treated! Some clinics intentionally under-treat in order to make the ‘downtime’ period more attractive to prospective patients but doing so doesn’t deliver the maximum degree of improvement.
We believe it is far better for patients to have one very effective treatment for maximum results rather than a number of lighter sessions with shorter ‘downtimes’ and a mediocre result!
After 2-3 days, the oozing and pin-point bleeding will stop and be replaced with numerous fine scabs. Don’t be alarmed – this also is expected and totally normal. Just keep applying your Vaseline to allow the scabs to fall off naturally. Do not forcibly wipe them off or pick at them.
Once the face has fully cleared – usually by Day 9 – the skin will look pink like mild sunburn. This will fade over the ensuing weeks but, in the meantime, you can camouflage it with foundation and return to work and social activities.
During the first 3 months after Laser Skin Resurfacing, your skin could be more sensitive and if so, you may find it difficult to use your usual cosmetics. After three months, any such sensitivity should have disappeared and you should then be able to resume wearing all your usual cosmetics.
This depends on you, your lifestyle and future sun exposure. Generally, the more you avoid sun exposure and use effective UV protection when sun exposure is unavoidable, the longer the results of Laser Skin Resurfacing will last. With good UV protection, the results should last 5-10 years. As with other forms of skin resurfacing, the procedure can be repeated if and when desired.
The following Before/After images are just a small selection of the thousands of Laser Skin Resurfacing procedures our Clinic has performed over the last 27 years. Some are examples of our previous (and no longer available) ‘Ultrapulse CO2 Laser’ while others are the result of our current computerised Fraxel CO2 ‘Repair’ Laser. Nevertheless, they all demonstrate the impressive results that can be achieved with Laser Skin Resurfacing when laser experience and skill are combined with a proven-effective CO2 Laser.
The following are the Laser Costs for the more commonly requested INDIVIDUAL facial areas. However, p[lease note that when multiple areas are requested, the Clinic will discount the total cost.
The Initial Assessment of Suitability and Consultation Fee of $165 includes a credit of $100 towards your Laser Skin Resurfacing if performed within 30 days.
Light Sedation by our Specialist Anaesthetist is only necessary for Cheeks or Full Face Laser Resurfacing.
Please note that the Laser Fees below do not include the Theatre Fee or an Anaesthetist’s Fee if one is required.
