How Laser Eyelid Surgery reduces recovery time – no scalpel incisions necessary
Cosmetic Eyelid Surgery is known as Blepharoplasty, and it’s a way of providing a younger appearance by removing the classic signs of ageing around the eyes. By removing the excess skin, muscle and fat from the upper eyelids we can eliminate the ‘hooding’ that eyes can develop with age. Similarly, removing the excess fat under the eyes, removes those all-too-common ‘bags’ that create a very ‘tired look’.
How is it performed?
The surgery is performed under local anaesthesia in the privacy of our Clinic and you can go home one hour after your procedure. With Upper Eyelids, we make a bloodless laser incision in the natural crease of the upper eyelid and remove the excess skin, muscle and fat responsible for the hooding’. But in the case of the Lower Eyelids, the laser allows us to place the incision on the inside of the lower eyelid and therefore we leave no scar on the outside skin that always occurs when done with a scalpel.
Is the procedure the same at other clinics?
There are two basic ways that eyelid surgery can be performed: using laser, or using a scalpel. With a scalpel, the lower eyelid incision is always made on the outside of the lower eyelid, not on the inside. This means that a scar on the skin under the eye always results after scalpel surgery but with a laser the incision is hidden on the inside of the lower eyelid and therefore never shows.
What are the advantages to having Eyelid Surgery done with Laser?
There are a number of positives to Laser Eyelid Surgery. Here are a few of them:
- The Laser seals the small blood vessels as it cuts. This substantially decreases post-operative bruising as well as the risk of post-operative bleeding thereby making it a SAFER operation.
- Recovery times are noticeably shorter due to the reduced bruising and swelling with the laser. Not only do you feel better faster, but you can go back to your regular life sooner.
- No external scars in the case of lower eyelid surgery.
